FRATELLIS DUMP THE DAGGER

The ‘na na-na-na’ crowd-pleaser is no more…

Some bands have the unfortunate stigma of being one-hit wonders, and deservedly so. While this is fine for your throw-away pop, when you happen to have been predicted as the saviours of Indie music (see NME circa early 2006) as The Fratellis were, it is slightly more worrying.

The hit in question is of course Chelsea Dagger, and albeit being part of a much wider collection of fantastic music including some awesome B-sides, is still the only song most of the population could name when talking about The Fratellis. From football stadiums to wedding discos, it’s ‘na na-na-na’ singalong is everywhere.

This of course is something the band have struggled with, as we noted back in April on hearing their new music for the first time. It is with great relief then to hear that Jon and the rest of the band are ditching Chelsea Dagger once and for all from their live set. As long as he keeps to his word, we might just see the re-emergence of the great band they looked like being all along.
