Albarn is top banana again…
After the success of their last primate adventure - namely cartoon band Gorillaz - Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewitt have come up trumps again with another bit of monkeying around.
Those of you watching the BBC’s coverage of The Olympics will have seen the excellent intro and ident pieces being used, created, no less, by Messers Albarn and Hewitt. In fact the Beeb have a whole section of their website dedicated to it.
It’s funny to think that 13 years after that epic media-hyped battle of the bands between Oasis and Blur, there would be such contrasting careers for Damon Albarn and his pseudo-rival Noel Gallagher. While the Mancunian has undoubtedly seen his band cement their place in history as one of the best-loved bands of their time, Albarn has branched out more than anyone could’ve expected.
From forming the 21st-century Gorillaz, adding a third band to his repertoire with The Good, The Bad And The Queen, to composing a Chinese Opera, he keeps going from strength to strength, making those days of the race to the top of the charts seem a distant memory.
You can watch the high-res version of the BBC Monkey titles over at YouTube.
