ADELE - MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE

adele_19.jpgWhile this is certainly not a backtrack over our upcoming review of her disappointing debut album - have you ever known a journalist to admit they were wrong? - we would just like to say that one track in particular has been on the office stereo all week.

When bands do covers they are mostly confined to live performances, and the very few that make albums are usually more filler than anything else. How refreshing then to hear Adele’s take on Bob Dylan’s ‘Make You Feel My Love’ from the album ‘19′.

Quite simply, it is beautiful. The song, of course, has exceptionally poignant lyrics - you wouldn’t expect anything less from Dylan - but it is Adele’s voice that sets it apart. While most of her album shows much promise but delivers little on true songwriting, here she has borrowed from the master and added her own touch to pure perfection.

Much has been made of her voice, but against Dylan’s wonderful backdrop it is transformed to another level. When you bear in mind this is a song that has already been covered by Garth Brooks, Billy Joel, Joan Osborne, Kelly Clarkson and Bryan Ferry amongst others, it really impresses that Adele has managed to make it sound like her own.

Quite what the future has in store for this girl is still undecided, but at least for the last week she has made us very happy.
