GOTB - The story so far (Part 5)

Just under five weeks from launch date and we are nearly doneitheme.gif with a the major parts of the site. I wouldn’t say we are happy with the whole design, but to be honest it would be worrying if we were.

By using the fantastic Wordpress for Get Off The Bandwagon, we leave ourselves fully adaptable to updating the site with new design aspects as and when we please. The beauty, of course, of the web and specifically what is being called Web 2.0 is that it is constantly changing. Already we are looking at ideas for GOTB Mach 2.0, having not even even finished the stable version of 1.0 yet.

Of course a second version of the site is long way away, but this is something that really interests us. At the moment iTheme isn’t as adaptable as we would like for our site, but it certainly a theme to bear in mind for the future.

As for the launch day on January 1st, 2007, we are virtually all there. The design is being tested cross the usual range of browsers and is holding up pretty well. We must stress this is due to the fantastic design of K2, and of course, the stability of Wordpress 2.3.

GOTB - The story so far (Part 4)

pad.jpgWell it’s been a busy few days at the GOTB office. Designing the site is the easy part, but it’s the fluid nature of websites that makes life harder. We’ve made a lot of small, but essential tweaks to the site, a lot under it’s skin.  Several notepad pages of ‘to do’ lists have been worked through and we are now very close to a final set of pages that we are happy with.

The first issue of the magazine is now under early design briefing, which is good step forward too. We have also decided to give it it’s own page on the site, which shows how keen we are to promote it. There is a big debate at the moment whether to create it as an interactive pdf or just a plain e-zine, this may well come down to time constraints more than anything. On with those lists…

GOTB - The story so far (Part 3)

Well, the aesthetics of the site are now nearly complete. The headers are a vast improvement on what went before and we’ve tweaked the K2 CSS a bit just to change a few minor things that aid navigation. Speaking of which, we have pretty much settled on the “jump to” menu on the sidebar. This has now gone through something like 15 redesigns, but we felt the stripes added to the feel nicely.

The main aspect of the site left for use to develop is the contact page. This is currently proving the hardest thing so far, simply because there is so much we want to fit on it. One of the last parts of the masterplan to be implemented will be a monthly e-zine that wraps up the best of the previous month’s reviews across the site, as well as looking forward to the month ahead. At the moment the general consensus is to integrate this into the contact, but it may turn out that it gets its own place on the front page and individual sub-domain.
